Rock7, Iridium, Trident and DaMSA

  • 23/3/2010

DaMSA (The Danish Maritime Safety Administration) have enlisted the help of Rock 7 Mobile, Iridium and Trident Sensors to develop a method of deliverying Marine Safety Information to ocean vessels in the Arctic regions.

Current methods of sending critical warnings such as iceberg alerts do not work in the Arctic, as VHF signals and other satellite networks do not cover this area.

As more Arctic shipping lanes open up due to global warming, the requirement for delivery of this information to Arctic shipping grows. Iridium is the only satellite network with truly global coverage, including the polar regions, and with Rock7 and Trident's experience with tracking and messaging equipment we are perfectly placed to help with the project.

A trial unit was delivered to Copenhagen yesterday, and is due to be 'road' tested (in the Arctic!) later this year.
