Hardware
- Transmits location via Iridium Satellite network, and works anywhere on earth (including polar, desert and ocean regions) with a clear view of the sky.
- Active GPS Antenna for obtaining fast, accurate lock on position
- Alert mode, alerts base of position by text message when activated in an emergency
- Rechargable lithium-ion battery lasts up to a year, depending on transmission frequency (see table, right).
- Waterproof to depths of 50m, and it floats too!
- Ruggedised outdoor casing to protect from extreme environments.
- Strong fabric outer sheath with multiple attachment points for backpacks etc
- Can send and receive short messages when connected to a laptop
- Only weighs 750g, and measures 19x7x9 cm.
- Tested to -20 degrees C and up to +50 degrees C
Software
- Web-based interface to view positions of multiple units on Google Maps
- Compatible with a range of web browsers on both Mac and Windows platforms
- Real-time view shows new positions as soon as they are received
- Positions can also be viewed in Google Earth
- WAP/Mobile phone interface to view simple unit positions out in the field
